Ummul-Munthir said, "The Messenger of God, peace and blessings of God be upon him, visited me accompanied by ‘Alī [Ibn-Abī-Ṭāleb]. We had clusters of dates hanging (1), from which the Messenger of God, peace and blessings of God be upon him, and ‘Alī started to eat. The Messenger of God, peace and blessings of God be upon him, then told ‘Alī, 'Stop, stop, ‘Alī; you are still recovering!' So ‘Alī sat down, while the Prophet, peace and blessings of God be upon him, continued to eat. I then cooked some chard and barley for them and the Prophet, peace and blessings of God be upon him, said '‘Alī, have some of this; it is better for you.'". Footnotes: (1) To allow them to ripen before they could be eaten. Click on ḥadīth to read more
